Imo – The lifeless body of the traditional ruler of Atta Kingdom in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Eze Edwin Azike, has been found at the village’s market square.
Azike, was kidnapped from his palace on Thursday, December 9 only for villagers to discover his corpse at the market square early Friday morning.
He was kidnapped by a band of gunmen who invaded the village on Thursday.
The bandits also killed four other villagers while ferrying away the traditional ruler.
The chairman of the state Traditional Rulers Council/ Community Policing , Eze Emma Okeke, confirmed that the council was informed of the killing on Friday .
He said that monarchs in the state were saddened by the killing of a fellow traditional ruler, describing it as an abomination.
“We have got the sad news about the killing of Eze Edwin Azike. This is abominable in Igbo culture. I don’t know why traditional rulers are being hunted like this.
“We are not politicians, we are only custodians of the culture of our people. We were informed on Thursday when he was kidnapped, only for him to be found dead, this morning, ” he said.
Attempts to get the state police command spokesman, DSP Micheal Abattam, were unsuccessful as he could not be reached on his phone. (vitalnewsngr)
