Two female children were among 10 persons that lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident which occurred on Bode Saadu-Jebba highway in Moro Local Government area of Kwara State on Friday.
The state Sector Commander of the
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Frederick Ade Ogidan confirmed the accident.
He said that 17 people were involved in the multiple auto crash, which occurred at Ilu Pupa village at about 06.30hours.
According to him, three vehicles were involved in the fatal crash in which three others sustained injuries.
Ogidan disclosed that N60,750 cash was recovered at the scene of the crash, blaming the accident on wrongful overtaking and over speeding.
The vehicles involved in the crash were a Green coloured private Volkswagen Sharon car with registration number AKD 733FX, a private Gold coloured car registered GWA 22DD, driven by one Oladokun Waheed and a white colour commercial vehicle registered DTS 139XA owned by Darmarna Petroleum Ltd.
While the injured were taken to Shalom Hospital, Bode Saadu for treatment, corpses of the dead victims were deposited at the morgue of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital .
Ogidan advised motorists to always be cautious of the way they drive and overtake on the highways.
He said the FRSC will soon commence another round of enforcement of speed limit violation and over loading from Monday, July 17, 2023.
“The FRSC cannot tolerate a situation where 10 lives are lost in a single auto crash,” he added.
