12  Brigade Celebrates 2025 WASA In Kogi, Gov. Ododo Donates N9mln To Widows Of Fallen Heroes

Governor Ahmed  Usman Ododo of Kogi State, has come to the aid of of nine widows of fallen soldiers by donating N9million to them.

Ododo made the donation during the West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025 celebration held at Chari Maigumeri Barracks in Lokoja on Saturday.

The ceremony, held at the barracks which also serve as the headquarters of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army brought together military personnel, community leaders, and families of service members who have paid the ultimate price for Nigeria’s security.

Represented by the State Security Adviser, retired Cdr Jerry Omodara, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting Nigerian Army and security agencies.

He said the donation underscored the state’s appreciation of the ultimate sacrifice made by military families.

Ododo, serving as Special Guest of Honour, praised the 12 Brigade’s WASA, describing it as a vibrant showcase of Nigeria’s cultural heritage and a vital morale booster for troops who have spent the year on operations, training and community security.

Ododo expressed “great pleasure and profound honour” to join the barracks community, noting that the annual WASA tradition has been “impressively sustained” and provides soldiers a chance to unwind with families after a demanding year.

He traced WASA’s roots to the West African Frontier Force, the predecessor of the Nigerian Army, emphasizing its role in fostering unity, camaraderie and a sense of belonging among officers, soldiers and their dependents.

The governor lauded the colorful performances by Hausa, Igbo, Okun, Igala, Ebira, Fulani, Langtang, Zuru and Nupe troupes, saying the displays proved that “you have not broken links with your cultural backgrounds.”

He congratulated the brigade for a successful 2025 operations that kept peace and security across Kogi, urging personnel to remain “focused, resilient and proactive” as they enter 2026.

Ododo reaffirmed Kogi’s “deep commitment” to supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, promising continued assistance to improve welfare and operational effectiveness.

Earlier, the Commander, 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi, assured Kogi of the army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security.

Sidi stressed the need for citizens to support security agencies in tackling insecurity.

The commander described WASA as a significant occasion that brings together officers, soldiers, families, and friends to celebrate shared identity, cultural heritage, and collective achievements.

He also emphasised the importance of WASA in showcasing the Nigeria Army’s diversity and unity.

He praised the dedication, discipline, and professionalism of officers and soldiers, highlighting the Brigade’s achievements in 2025, including successful military operations against bandits and kidnappers in Kogi.

The commander expressed appreciation for the support of the Governor, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. -Gen Waidi Shaibu,for their leadership and commitment to the Nigerian Army’s welfare and effectiveness.
