Ibadan – The Oyo State Government and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), have resolved the differences that led to the sealing of some offices of the company in Ibadan on Tuesday.
The two parties, after a meeting in Ibadan on Thursday expressed their readiness to work together and find amicable resolution to issues at stake.
In a joint statement issued at the end of the meeting, the state government and IBEDC assured members of the public that electricity will be restored soon.
The statement was signed
by the Oyo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Temilolu Seun Ashamu and the Chief Operating Officer of the IBEDC, Mr John Ayodele .
“The two parties would continue amicable resolution of the issue and work together to make electricity meters available to all residents of the state, ” the statement said.
The IBEDC had last week disconnected the Oyo State government secretariat from the national grid over an outstanding debt if N450 million.
Oyo state government in response sealed some business offices of the company in Ibadan over a claim that the company is owing unremitted taxes amounting to N500 million.
The government’s action led to electricity blackout in Ibadan and it’s environs.
It is important to note that the blackout still persists as at the time of this report in spite if claims by the two parties that they have resolved their differences.(vitalnews)
