Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State on Friday inaugurated 25 ambulances as part of efforts to boost healthcare service delivery in the state.
Speaking at the event in Lokoja, Bello said the ambulances will be deployed to the Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in each of the 21 local government areas in the state.
He said the remaining four will be deployed to the state owned Specialist Hospital in Lokoja , The Referral Hospital, Okene and newly built general hospitals in Gege Beki and Adogo communities.
Bello said the aim was to boost healthcare services in rural areas and reduce maternal death.
The governor at the event also presented 27 official vehicles to members of the state house of assembly while nine SUVs were deployed to the judiciary for official use of high court judges.
The governor also presented three fire tender trucks to the state Department of Fire Service to enhance the operation of the department.
Bello said the distribution of the vehicles was to stimulate performance and ensure quality service delivery to Kogites.
He tasked the beneficiaries to see the gesture as a form encouragement for them to serve the state better.
In his speech, the Speaker of the state house of assembly, Hon. Umar Yusuf, commended the governor for the show of love and better welfare towards the legislators.
He said the vehicles will enhance productivity for the growth and development of the state.
“With this demonstration of love and concern towards our wellbeing, we are assuring you that we won’t relent in serving our constituents and the entire people of Kogi, ” he said.
Dr. Usman Zakari, the Health Commissioner, thanked the governor for the ambulances, which he said would go a long way in enhancing the wellbeing of the citizens of the state.
Zakari said : ” These ambulances will make it easy for referral purposes; moving patients from one hospital to the other for the desired medical attention and treatment.”
He said that the governor had done a lot for the state’s health sector, which he claimed had no equal in the country, considering the facilities provided in most of the hospitals.
The Chief Judge (CJ) of the state, Justice Josiah Mejabi, thanked the governor for considering the welfare of judges as paramount towards enhanced judicial service to the people of the state. (vitalnewsngr.com)
