Maternal Infant and Child Nutrition : AYGF trains 1,000 community health workers , volunteers in Kogi, Niger

Lokoja – The Africa Youth Growth Foundation (AYGF) has engaged and trained over 1,000 community volunteers and health workers in 10 local government areas of Kogi State in maternal infant and child nutrition.

The training was part of the just concluded three-week long commodity distribution and supportive supervision visits to 111 wards in the10 local government areas and 138 communities across 13 local government areas in Niger state.

Mallam Ahmed Suleiman, AYGF Communication and Mobilization Officer, gave the details in a statement issued in Lokoja on Monday.

According to him, the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) project being implemented include supply of quality, cost-effective nutrition services for pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, and children under five years of age.

“AYGF also monitored and provided support to the community volunteers on using the current 2.4 version of the ANRiN app and distributing life-saving BPNS commodities, namely vitamin A, iron-folic acid, Zinc/Ors, SP Fansidar, Micronutrient powder, Albendazole (deworming) across the 10 and 13 LGAs in Kogi and Niger states respectively,” the statement said.

The benefiting communities who have taken ownership of the project expressed joy over the continuous supply of these commodities and thanked AYGF for implementing a quality program to end malnutrition, malaria, and congenital disabilities in Kogi and Niger states.

The Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) is a World Bank-funded project committed to increasing quality, cost-effective nutrition services for pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, and children under five years of age, also enhancing knowledge of MICYN in high malnutrition burden states in Nigeria.

AYGF focused on 111 wards across 10 LGAs in Kogi state – Omala, Ofu, Olamaboro, Ibaji, Idah, Dekina, Bassa, Ofu, Ankpa, and Ajaokuta; and 138 wards across 13 LGAs in Niger state namely Mokwa, Bida, Gbako, Lavun, Lapai, Agaie, Edati, Chanchaga, Bosso, Gurara, Tafa, Suleja, and Katcha.(Kogireport/vitalnewsngr.com)
