Lagos – Former NTA Ace Sports Broadcaster, Fabio Lanipekun is dead. He died on Sunday afternoon at his magodo – Isheri,Lagos residence .
His death came few days after his 80th Birthday.
Late Mr Adesola Olanipekun aka Uncle Fabio was born in Lagos and was a former Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) Public Relations Officer (PRO).
Olanipekun who clocked 80 on March 2 emerged as one of the first Nigerians to be trained in sports journalism in 1964 shortly after starting with the defunct Daily Express
He was a complete journalist who was able to easily switch from print media to television where he made his mark with Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) and later the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
A widely travelled professional, Olanipekun rose to the position of Manager, Sports at NTA before his retirement.
In her condolence, Modele Sarafa-Yusuff described Fabio as her ” former boss and mentor, the legendary Fabio Lanipekun.
” A cerebral, hard-working and no nonsense boss.
Fabio encouraged my move from NTA Ibadan to the Headquarters (then in Lagos).
“He burnished my skills, taught me discipline and handwork and gave us opportunities to shine- knowing as he did, that our light did not dim his own.
” I was with him on his 79th birthday-along with some of my former colleagues but missed his 80th as I was declaring my candidature on the same day.
“May God grant him sweet repose and bless his devoted wife & other family members,” She said.(vitalnews)
