Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has proposed a budget of N549,160,417,663.00 for the 2025 fiscal year to the state house of assembly.
Yusuf presented the budget estimate to the Kano State House of Assembly on Friday.
The governor also shared the performance of the 2024 budget, which he said stands at a commendable 77 per cent.
Yusuf outlined the breakdown of the 2025 budget, with the capital expenditure set at N312,634,912,672.18 billion, and the recurrent expenditure at N236,525,504,990.82 billion.
He highlighted that the capital-to-recurrent expenditure ratio is projected to be 57 : 43 percent, with the majority of capital spending focusing on social and economic sectors.
The governor emphasized significant allocations for key areas, with N168,350,802,346.19 (31.00%) set aside for education, N90,600,835,766.48 (16.50%) for health, and N70,682,843,744.15 (12.87%) for infrastructure development.
Additionally, sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, environment, and governance institutions will receive specific attention in the budget.
Yusuf also touched on the performance of the 2024 budget, which has achieved 77 per cent overall, noting improvements in revenue generation and a reduction in budgetary leakages.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by citizens in 2024, particularly due to federal economic reforms and rising prices, the governor expressed hope that the August protests would be the last.
He stressed the importance of supporting the youth, with plans for youth programs to mitigate potential unrest and encourage growth and stability in the state.
