Former Head of Interim National Government, Chief Earnest Shonekan is dead.
Aged 85 years, Shonekan died this morning in Lagos, sources said.
He headed the Interim National Government that succeeded the military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida.
Babangida formed the Interim National Government as a way out of the political crises created as a result of the snnukement if the June 12, 1993 presidential election win by Chief MKO Abiola.
Shonekan hailed from Abeokuta just like Abiola.
He was the Head of the Interim National Government from August 26 and November 17 1993 .
Shonekan was ousted in a military coup led by late General Sani Abacha on November 17, 1993.
Before then, Shonekan had risen through ranks to become Chairman/Managing Director of the United African Company (UAC).
