Ilorin – Police in Ilorin, Kwara State, have rescued a man from committing suicide.
The man identified as Olayinka Segun Owolabi and said to be in his late 40s was planning to hang himself on a tree in Ilorin when he was sighted by a passer – by who promptly alerted a nearby police station.
Olayinka, who hailed from Oyan, Odo-Otin Local Government of Osun State, was sighted by a passers-by in the night of April 21 at the check point area, Ilorin, while tying a rope on a tree.
He was said to be tying the rope to the tree with intent to use to hang himself.
A passer-by who saw him in action quickly dashed to Budo Nuhu Police Station, opposite Ilorin International Airport to inform policemen on duty.
Kwara State Police Command spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi said policemen promptly responded, rushed to the scene to rescue the man.
“At about 6pm on April 21, 2022, a passer-by sighted what looked like a man hanging on a tree close to the main road at the NAFSAT area along Checking Point bus stop, Ilorin.
“His (passerby’s) report at the Budo Nuhu Police Station elicited a quick response by policemen that rushed to the scene.
“The rope around the neck of the victim was loosened. He was rescued and rushed to Tobi Hospital, Taiwo Ilorin, where he is responding to treatment.
“On interrogation after regaining consciousness, the man who was later identified as Olayinka Segun Owolabi stated that he was tired of life, having lost his job, both parents (and) no help was forthcoming from anywhere,” Okasanmi explained in a statement. (vitalnews)
