The #endbadgovernance# protest which entered its fifth day on Monday assumed a chaotic dimension in Kaduna, North Central Nigeria when protesters resorted to looting banks, looting offices and smashing vehicles belonging to individuals, private and public establishments.
The protesters, mostly youths also raised Russian flags and publicly made overtures to the military overthrow the Civilian Government and return to military rule.
They also forcefully took over an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) from police on security duty.
The protests in Kaduna have been largely fueled by widespread dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of economic hardships, leading to calls for drastic measures.
In a similar vein, for the fifth day running, protests also erupted in Kano, where citizens are expressing their frustrations over rising living costs and inadequate government responses.
Both cities have witnessed significant unrest, with demonstrators demanding immediate action to address their grievances.
The protesters in Kano have also been displaying Russian flag and openly canvassed for the return of the country to military rule.
In his reaction, a former Senator from Kaduna State expressed worry over the frightening situation in Kaduna, saying in a tweet that
“Banks looted, Vehicles smashed, Government offices looted and vandalised, Russian flags raised with a loud call for the overthrow of the Civilian Government and return to Military rule.
“This is the situation of our Kaduna ‘peaceful’ protest.”
Shehu Sani has condemned the violent turn of recent protests in Kaduna.
